NEWS BRIEFS (Oct. 1999 - present)
Our long-term goal is to integrate the Community Web Sites network fully with the Post-Dispatch newspaper and the larger Web site you're connected with, postnet.com.

Someday an integral part of every news story we report will be a link to the Web site where community groups involved in the story speak for themselves, or discuss the issues raised by our journalism. And an integral part of every reporter's work will be studying the intelligence to be gleaned from the things community groups put up in our Web network.

What this means for you now is that, as we develop the ways of integrating these media, you'll see Community Web Sites -- and specifically the most active sites, the ones that point to the most creative and interesting community activity -- will be featured in more and more places in both the newspaper and on the main postnet.com Web site.

Already we're beginning to highlight Community Web Sites on the front pages of the Metro and Everyday sections. (The brief you see here ran in the Oct. 21, 1999, Post-Dispatch.) Arts-related events from the Community Calendar are featured as Best Bets on postnet.com's A&E front page.

In coming months, we plan also to start printing links alongside our news stories to closely related Community Web Sites (as, on the flip side, we already provide links on our Web-site category pages -- like "Faith & Character" and "Sports" -- to related items in our online newspaper).
